Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any rebates available for individual sessions?

If you are an Australian Citizen, you may be eligible for a rebate through Medicare with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). To assess your eligibility, you will need to meet with your treating doctor for an evaluation. Following your 6th and 10th session with your psychologist, you will need to visit your doctor for a review to ensure the care plan remains valid and you continue to be eligible for your rebate. As of 1st July 2025, you are able to claim up to 10 sessions per calendar year and the current rebate stands at $98.95. This may increase depending on your Medicare Safety Net. For more information please contact Medicare.

Can I claim on private health insurance?

Sydney recommends checking with your health insurer to confirm your level of cover. If you bring your physical health insurance card (not digital), we can process your claim on the spot so you’ll only need to pay the gap. If you forget your card or only have a digital card, we’ll provide you with a claim receipt to submit directly to your health fund after your appointment

Do I need a referral?

No. You do not require a referral to engage in services with Sydney. However, if you are seeking rebates such as from Medicare, you will require one from your GP.

Do you work with NDIS Participants?

Sydney has seven years of experience working in the NDIS space and absolutely works with NDIS Participants whose plans are self managed and plan managed. This is charged at the same rate as all clients of Phase Psychology. Unfortunately at this time Phase Psychology is not a registered provider and cannot service those whose plans are NDIA Managed.

Do you offer assessment services?

Phase Psychology offers limited assessment services at this time. If you are interested, please leave an expression of interest here and I will do my best to assist you with a referral to a suitable practitioner.

What are the benefits of Telehealth?

Recent times have prompted us to drastically re-think the way health care is delivered- moving away from the rigid traditional face-to-face consultation in clinic rooms. Despite the world returning to Covid-normal, unsurprisingly Telehealth is here to stay. Some of the advantages to Telehealth include:

-Sessions from your own home provide an added comfort.

-Greater access to services for those in rural or remote areas.

-More convenient with reduced wait times.

-Reduced time and costs associated with appointment attendance.

-More flexibility with session times.

-Less time required off from work to attend appointments. This makes Telehealth great for busy individuals who struggle to attend appointments due to time constraints. You can attend on your lunch break or before / after your work day.

Is there parking on site?

For sessions that are in person at Shop 2 95-99 Wharf Street Tweed Heads, there is ample street parking and onsite parking for clients on Beryl Street or Wharf Street. The entrance to Phase Psychology is at the back of the main building by the carpark. This office does not have a waiting room so please wait on the bench seat provided outside the office door or in your car, and I will greet you at the door at your appointment start time.
